Sidegames Cancels his AMS Trip:
It's official. Sidegames has gone crazy and he admits it. I dropped him of Friday for his Swiss Air flight to Zurich and onto Amsterdam. I figured he wouldn't cancel this time because he was looking forward to smoking weed and banging prostitutes. Also, he had booked The Grand Amsterdam, Sofitel. The hotel was a special pre-pay deal that was nonrefundable. Just about a half hour before the flight was set to depart, Sidegames called me and said he wasn't going. At first, I was convinced he was joking, but he was serious. He later told me that he felt embarrassed to be calling me and considered taking a tab to his apartment, even though his car was still parked at my place.
Sidegames said that he was convinced he'd do stupid stuff in Amsterdam. We agreed that sleeping with 50 Euro prostitutes and smoking weed wasn't that bad, but he said he was pretty sure he'd end up doing heroine there. This goes back to the AA theory that I spoke about in a previous entry. The program has got him to believe that smoking a little weed or drinking one drink is "fucking up" so he ends up having the attitude that he might as well go all the way and do heroin too. If he was indeed going to do heroin, then it's probably good he didn't go.
I told Sidegames that he needs to talk to his work psychaitrist more. I told him that obviously "The Program" isn't working for him anymore so he should try another approach. He can still go to meetings, but he should work to fix the underlying psychological issues that are causing him to do drugs and book and cancel trips. At one point, he said that he should trust in a higher power like they tell him do to in AA. I told him that I truely believe in the saying, "God helps those who help themselves."
